Police Service Dogs – Fully Trained:
- Highly trained in specific areas: narcotics detection, explosive detection, patrol work, tracking, and apprehension.
- Work with a handler and are ready for immediate deployment.
- Can be categorized as:
- Single-Purpose: Trained for one detection task (e.g., narcotics or explosives).
- Dual-Purpose: Trained in detection and patrol work (apprehension).
Personal Protection Dogs (PPD):
- Undergo rigorous training in threat detection, guarding, and controlled aggression.
- Highly obedient, even in high-pressure situations, for controlled protection.
